Constant-velocity joints (aka homokinetic or CV joints) allow a drive shaft to transmit power through a variable angle, at constant rotational speed, without an appreciable increase in friction or play.
Constant-velocity joints are protected by a rubber boot, a CV gaiter. Cracks and splits in the boot will allow contaminants in, which would cause the joint to wear quickly.
Keeping your front wheel drive car motoring down the road is in part due to the CV joint in your axle shafts. They transfer the power from the transmission to your wheels all while dealing with extreme loads and movements of your front suspension and steering.
Because of the this workload, it is not surprising that CV axles will need to be replaced as your car ages. Most vehicle CV axles are designed to last 150,000 miles, however replacement between 70,000 to 130,000 is common. Inspecting the rubber boot surrounding your CV axle every oil change is a good preventative measure. When boots are ripped, essential protective grease is removed and causes premature failure.
NEW CV AXLE ASSEMBLY — Includes joints, and boots; Manufactured from 100 percent new components to insure proper fit and operation, providing maximum safety and stability, restoring the vehicle’s handling and control, and improves passenger comfort over the toughest and roughest driving conditions.
